Table Top Map

On May 28, 2018, The City of Pine Lake accepted this beautiful gift of the Tabletop Map of Pine Lake from its originator, Mike Tarnower, as a memento from Geegaws Eatery and a contribution to the history of art and culture in Pine Lake.

Accepting the gift from Mike for the City were: Pine Lake Municipal Judge, L’Erin Wiggins (left) and Mayor pro tem, Jean Bordeaux.

Mike Tarnower opened Geegaws Eatery at the corner of Rockbridge and Clubhouse, enlisting many local artists in the design process. In addition to the fabulous food, the restaurant served as a music venue, with most of the musicians hailing from Pine Lake. It also provided a place for poetry slams, featuring many creative poets from the area, as well as an art gallery, with walls always filled with art from our talented visual artists.

Mike designed and built a set of jigsaw tabletops, creating a map of the city. He wanted residents to be able to sit by the street where they lived and join tables together to enjoy the experience with their neighbors.

Sadly, Geegaws closed its doors in 2006. Mike donated the tabletops to the City, where they had been used as tables prior to this project to bring them all together on the Courthouse wall.
